National and Regional Missions
There's a great deal of need in our country for Christian ministry. Our involvement includes:
American Baptist Home Mission Societies. Formerly known as "National Ministries," ABHMS provides a conduit to help a wide variety of ministries in the US. This includes work in starting new churches, disaster response, developing discipleship and Christian education materials, supporting children's and youth ministires, education, evangelism, and ministries that work for a more just society. Presently we support two American Baptist related "home missions" :
Rainbow Acres, Camp Verde, AZ
Provides a unique Christian Community dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities by assisting each individual to achieve emotional, cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and vocational growth to his or her fullest potential. More Information
United Christian Centers (Broderick Christian Center), West SacramentoProvides an atmosphere of caring, dignity and empowerment. Ministries include a Child Development Program, transportation to a sheltered workshop for mentally handicapped clients, transitional housing for homeless families and services for homeless individuals and Soviet refugees.
Growing Healthy Churches (GHC)GHC, formerly American Baptist Churches of the West, is the regional organization of the American Baptist Churches. It emphasizes helping churches grow strong and healthy. It has a special emphasis on church planting. More information
Seafarers Ministry of the Golden Gate Seafarers Ministry, formerly the Scandinavian Seamen's Mission in Oakland, California, ministers to seafarers from around the world whose ships dock in the San Francisco Bay. More information
